About Projekt Duga

Projekt Duga means: Project Rainbow where the rainbow represents the sign of a friendship alliance as we encountered with Noah after the flood. Our project is located in the "Kordun" (former Krajina), an abandoned region in the interior of Croatia, close to the border with Bosnia. The region is characterized by the presence of minorities: Serbian returnees, Croatian Muslims and Croats who fled from Bosnia after the war. It is a forgotten region. In everything a great challenge to work on reconciliation and a friendship alliance. The project has been active since May 1999 and focuses on single elderly people and children and young people.

The project has its own camping area and can accommodate 30 to 40 people, has 3 camping cabins with 5 beds each, some caravans, a simple kitchen and café in a stable ("Café Bethlehem"). The camping site is maintained by the local youth and children of "De Leeuwenend" and by the groups that come to visit us.

History

Projekt Duga started in 1999 as an initiative of Dutch and Croatian volunteers from different churches. At the moment the project is mainly supported by the Evangelical Congregation Jonah in Ede, but volunteers are participants from different (types of) churches.

Travel Croatia October

In the previous newsletter I indicated that the three of us would go to Croatia from September 30th to October 14th. After a breakdown with the bus, we finally arrived safely three days later than expected. We experienced how important prayer from the supporters is during such an endeavor and in the end we experienced a well-trodden path. The inspection of the bus went more smoothly than ever and the planned renovations went very well.

Progress renovation project location

Together with Edis, I was able to work for another 6 days on building our classroom and meeting place. We even did more than I expected, but there is also more work than I expected. In addition to building an extra room, the roof of the kitchen needs to be replaced. The log cabins and the shower building are also due for restoration. Mowing the camping grounds has received virtually no attention this year. In short: we are looking for extra help. Anyone who has ideas to help with the renovation and refurbishment of the project location in Croatia, I hereby ask to contact me via This email address is being protected from spambots. Plans summer 2018 - mission trip Croatia

The summer of 2018 still seems far away, but the last trip gave me ideas to organize the summer of 2018. One of those ideas is to go on a mission trip to Croatia with a group of parents and children from the Jonah municipality. This idea has been around for some time and early organization is necessary for this to be successful. Some enthusiastic parents have already registered and I would like to ask all enthusiastic parents to contact me via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so that we can organize a meeting and consultation as soon as possible.

Practical issues

Grandma Kika is visited twice a week by my parents-in-law and they take care of her. The children are doing well at school and Meindert has some new assignments for his web agency. This year we also want to distribute Christmas packages to the single elderly in the Krajina - Kordun in Croatia, but also to the families we know. More information about this soon.

This newsletter will be printed and made available within the Jonah Municipality. If you would like to receive this newsletter by mail, please let us know via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Cordial greetings,

Meindert Jorna

PS contributions for site renovation are very much needed. I would like to let Edis earn some money for the help he gives and many more materials are needed. We are also looking for some extra support for Kika. All contributions can be transferred to account:

NL24 INGB 0004 7230 03 in the name of "Stg Jonah in the outreach Krajina" in Ede. In connection with the ANBI status of the Stg. Jonah, it is important that you clearly indicate what the money is for with every donation. You can then count on your contribution to end up in the right pot.
