Dear people,
Contributions for Christmas packages, youth weekends, parent bus and winter camp can be transferred to account 4723003 in the name of "Stg. Jonah in. Outreach Krajina" in Ede.
Addition of Meindert and Samira
This weekend was the first youth weekend after our return to Croatia. Because of a lot of snow I could not pick up many young people. But it was good. Participants: Dragan, Paula, Nikolina, Mirsada, Zoran, Selvedin, Larissa and Ena. We have started preparing the winter camp, prepared a list of possible participants, discussed the theme (soldiers of justice), devised a game, visited Grandma Kika, made a plan for distribution of Christmas packages and prepared a list of elderly and families that we want to give a Christmas package. On Friday December 21, we expect to distribute the Christmas packages for the children in Maljevac during the Christmas performance.
Dragan will continue to work here for the next week. We still have a lot of work to do on the site to make the winter camp here possible. Especially with the severe frost of today. The next two weeks I expect to work with Dragan on the insulation of the rooms in the house and of two log cabins, installing two wood stoves in the log cabins (including building chimneys) and repair and insulation of the cafe (the stable). The ceiling in the toilet is set and ready.
Samira has meanwhile obtained her permanent residence visa for Croatia. We have also received a message that during the winter camp we can expect help from 4 ladies from Youth with a Mission from Switzerland. Warm greetings from a snowy Croatia (45 cm snow so far and minus 10C)

Dear people,
Yes, Projekt DUGA also continues when we are in the Netherlands. Here is the latest news.
Winter camp
From 27.12.2012 to 01.01.2013 we organize a winter camp for young people and children from the Kordun. We are counting on the same group that went to summer camp with us and participated in the summer program. We hope to be able to stay in the beautiful country house in Severin na Kupi. Participants from the Netherlands are welcome. The theme has not yet been determined. In short, many holes that deserve attention and prayer. My hope is that we will soon have a complete list of young people who want to come along. Their mandatory contribution is set at 27 Euro (200 kuna) per person and 40 Euro (300 kuna) per person for those who also continue to celebrate New Year's Eve. You can find information about sponsorship here.
Christmas packages
Also this year we want to distribute Christmas packages among single elderly people and families in the Kordun. Last year it was a great success with the distribution of 36 Christmas boxes plus 22 children's Christmas packages for the school in Maljevac. Just like last year, we are looking for sponsors in the Netherlands and then we do the shopping in Croatia and we put together the packages with the young people in Croatia, after which they are distributed. A Christmas package for a single elderly person or a family costs 25 Euro and a children's Christmas package 10 Euro. Are you participating again?
Project DUGA digital (version 2.0)
Projekt DUGA also exists digitally. This way the project can continue to function even when we are not in Croatia. New initiatives in recent months are:
- The DUGA web shop ( www.dugashop.tk ): items are offered there and the sale benefits projects that are mentioned on this website. We are still looking for some volunteers and / or contact persons for the periods that we are not in the Netherlands. We will also be constantly looking for things that we can place on the website. Take a look I would say.
- The DUGA prayer wall ( www.gebedsmuur.nl / www.degebedsmuur.nl ): information is placed there about young people, children, the elderly and families we work with in Croatia. If an update appears with more new information about people, you can keep it on our Facebook page
- The DUGA website ( www.projektduga.nl ) still gets a lot of attention from me. There is a DUGA community where photos and experiences can be shared. The past is also shown in photos (will be expanded further) and there are news updates. It also shows what is "tweeted" in relation to missionary work in Croatia. And: there is a mobiele versie of the website !! Very important because it allows you all to read the latest news and find contact details directly on your smartphone.
Further plans and news
We expect to leave as a family for Croatia again on December 1. In the Netherlands, we have been working on the plan for visiting work among the elderly and families in Croatia. My father-in-law Husein and sister-in-law Mirsada have been working with this for six months. But the means of transport is quite the weak link in this. It is important that we are able to arrange a simple car in Croatia so that Samira can also cooperate independently and Husein and Mirsada continue to regularly visit the elderly and families. Even when we are not there for a while.
Samira has since been informed that her permanent residence permit in Croatia is awaiting her. Manuel and Samuel are doing well at school and can keep up well. For the next 3 weeks I (Meindert) will no longer be working intensively as a nurse and will therefore be available for consultation if necessary.
Warm regards from all of us! Meindert, Samira, Manuel, Samuel and Emmanoella

Dear people,
Summer camps
Yesterday all children and young people were brought home. That means the end of the summer program of 2012. We have had a busy, full summer with visits from different groups and young people every week. It was intensive; it was good. From August 12, we had a week of summer camp at the sea with 17 young people. The theme was "De Ontmoeting" and we had a good meeting with them that week. The following week we had a children's camp (by the sea) where the children, as "secret agents", had to investigate a suspicious person (Jesus). Also this week it was about "Encounter". Strengths as always: enthusiasm of the young people and children, their openness to conversation and clear decisions in their faith life. Weaknesses: too few carriers and means of transport and too few preparers. But that didn't get in the way of the blessing. These remain points of attention for the coming year. Paula and Nikolina also worked as volunteers for the second week and that was a success.
Other cases
Our departure to the Netherlands is planned in ten days. The boys have to report to school again. Samira has meanwhile submitted her application for a permanent residence visa for Croatia, but has yet to pass the integration exam this week. She is quite nervous. She is also looking forward to some work in the Netherlands. Ideas are welcome. On August 31, we have planned one last meeting for all children and young people who have participated in the summer program.
Thank you to everyone who made these camps possible.
Summer camps Projekt DUGA on the sea
As most of you know, it has almost become a tradition at Projekt DUGA to organize a summer camp (or two) every year on the Adriatic coast in Croatia. Why? The young people and children we work with all live in a socially disadvantaged area and have few opportunities for a holiday or meeting each other. The summer camp by the sea offers young people a holiday, an opportunity to get away, to catch their breath and to reflect, a meeting place, and is motivating and very uplifting for all of them in terms of their faith, hope and future expectations.
Place, time, costs and financing
This year (2012) is the twelfth year that we organize these summer camps by the sea. The plan is to organize a camp from 12 to 19 August for 20 young people aged 12 to 24 years and from 19 to 26 August a camp for 20 children from 6 to 12 years old. We camp in tents on a mini camping site in “Posedarje” near Zadar. Young people pay a personal contribution of 40 euros, parents pay a personal contribution of 25 euros for children. Estimated costs (camping, travel, food and drink and materials) are 110 Euro per young person and 80 Euro per child. This means that we need 70 Euro in sponsor money for each youngster and 55 Euro for each child. Or in other words: for the first camp 1400 Euro in sponsor money is needed and 1100 Euro for the second camp. Apart from the sponsorship through stakeholders in the Netherlands, we also try to animate the churches in Croatia to sponsor and help.
Unique event and unique program
Projekt DUGA is a unique project in the Balkans. It brings together Serbian, Croat, Bosniak, Orthodox, Catholic and Muslim youth. We have become specialized in the unchurched youth and the goal is to have all of them encounter “the Way, the Truth and the Life”. Young people change as a result. Children from the past are now supervisors during the children's camp. Current information can be found at www.projektduga.nl. You can call via: 00385 47 892 3529 (0 ct per minute via www.nonoh.net)
Thank you for all the evidence of commitment; On behalf of all the youth and children of Projekt DUGA
Contributions for the summer camps can be transferred to account 4723003 in the name of "Stg. Jonah in outreach Krajina" in Ede.
Mjesto, vrijeme, troškovi i financiranje
Jedinstveni dogadaj i jedinstven program
Hvala vam u ime svih mladih i djece u Projekt Duga
Here is a question from Croatia regarding the intended trip of 8 Croatian youngsters to the Netherlands and the refurbishment of the camping site. As I wrote before, we are trying to collect 600 Euro to come to the Netherlands with 8 local young people from the Kordun. They were invited there by the "Impact Breakers" of Impact World Tour / Youth with a Mission from Bleskensgraaf. The couple who supervise this club and who will provide the program in the Netherlands (Steve and Willie Smith) live on donations just like us and it has been mutually agreed that we will take care of the travel costs ourselves.
Our question now, however, concerns the maintenance of the camping site first. There has been a lot of tidying up and refurbishing in the past 3 weeks. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of work to be done for which we still need the necessary help. We are therefore looking for people (institutions / foundations) who would like to financially support the young people involved from the Kordun so that they can take on these activities at Projekt DUGA. All eight of the young people who accompany them to the Netherlands indicate that they will make any "earnings" and support fully available to pay for the travel costs to the Netherlands.
Normal earnings for a young person (16 to 22 years old) within the Kordun are approximately 150 kuna / 20 Euro per day. We need them for the following activities:
- mowing the lawn: with a hand scythe (3 days), with petrol lawn mower (4 days), with tractor (3 days): total 10 days;
- painting: fencing (1 day), sanitary (2 days), wooden camping huts (2 days): total 5 days
- prune trees, top (1 day)
- repair work: picnic tables, pavilions, camping huts, water pump pipes, swimming pools (2 days)
- sorting and cleaning up: all tools and small equipment large shed: 2 days
- processing bulky waste (especially depreciated computers): 1 day
- planting and vegetation: 2 days
- building bicycle shed (wood from forest): 2 days
- furnishing office, computer room, including installation of internet and network, 2 days
- babysitter for our children so that Samira has a few days' hands free to clean everything properly, plus help with cleaning: 3 days
The total is therefore 30 hours x 20 Euro = 600 Euro
In short: we are looking for 600 Euro with which we can carry out the aforementioned activities together with 8 young people, pay them for their work so that they can pay for their trip themselves.
Visit, youth work, clearance
Shortly after our arrival in Croatia, we were visited by 6 young people from Youth with a Mission from Amsterdam. As a family we have not had time to "settle down". That is not a disaster. Right now I experience that as a privilege because we know ourselves in the midst of God's work. Isn't that wonderful right after arrival? It is wonderful to receive and take care of the local youth on a daily basis. The weekend was overwhelming (30 people) and very intensive. Some of the girls indicated that they have really learned new things about Jesus and the Fatherhood of God and want to continue to get to know and follow Christ. In addition, together with the YWAM group, I visit an elder or the youth at home every day. All barns have also been cleared and we are busy driving obsolete surpluses to the scrap yard. Conclusion: our life may be too intensive, but at the moment I am very happy with that. Now just be careful that we are going to find enough rest and keep the program until September.

Considerations
The local church in Croatia (Baptists, Pentecostal Church in Karlovac); are internally oriented, little growth. But potential. Will have to be invested in. Church in Croatia is still young and needs input and education. Possibly also YWAM (see below) can mean something in the motivation and mobilization of the believers in Croatia in relation to missions.
Student working at M&S (idea) : Idea was suggested to be able to gradually delegate tasks to this person. Possibly to also act as “caretaker” if Meindert and Samira are not there (or even if they are there).
Nothing will happen there if M&S are not there. The question is whether this is a problem. In any case, it is a fact. There is now a close-knit group of young people in Croatia, so we don't really have to start over when we return.
Also applies to the Netherlands: will not be taken over. As an example and illustration I (Meindert) mentioned that I fell ill last year while a presentation / info evening was planned. It could not continue then. I wanted to mention this because at the moment we certainly have the people who could best take over this. That is a big step and an encouraging development.
Mission is less alive than a few years ago. This was a comment regarding developments in the municipality. Within the municipality, matters such as municipal management and building have received more attention in the past five years. During an open congregation meeting the theme “mission” was therefore not brought up. Mission Committee is committed to bringing the theme of missions to the attention again.
Future (explanation: Meindert)
groups that come and know what they want and that we facilitate
-our children have to go to school in the Netherlands
-would like it to become a center (in Donja Brusovaca, Croatia) in which we participate
-Youth with an Assignment wants to have a department in Croatia (DTS internship)
-Important: do not develop too much on our site yourself
-Letting go of everything there, can you? Answer Meindert: is that necessary? (why was that question actually asked?)
Camping
-Instead of 40 places, we have 10, construction stopped in 2009. (The story: started in 2005 with a working group that focused on the construction of commercial camping sites on our site. Working group was struggling with internal problems such as illness and stopped in 2007. Meindert has taken over the baton and reduced the plan to 10 pitches. There was an idea to give the campsite a commercial character until 2010. In 2011, Meindert abandoned this idea: it is not a realistic option within the situation in Croatia and the situation of the Jorna family. The plan now is: a camping site to give groups the opportunity to participate in developing a mission vision.)
-After that I invested a lot in it, but now decided: don't do it anymore
idea is now: finish it anyway, but then as a base for shipment
Contact
-Skype connection during church service in the Netherlands (idea)
group of Croatian youths come to the Netherlands (before the summer)
-organize the mission market
- People are especially needed who - in the simplest of things - can contribute (visit, send knots of wool)
-it's going to live when you've seen it there yourself
- young people on Facebook (www.facebook.com/projektduga)
- www.projektduga.nl An account can also be created there and personal ideas, photos and comments can be posted. A chat channel has also been installed via www.projektduga.nl that is open continuously.
Prayer point
Consultation with Youth with a Mission about the possibilities for those interested who are there to be involved there for a longer period of time. Meindert's wish is that within YWAM this year (2012) the decision will be made to start a department in Croatia (which will be a kind of office in Zagreb, Split or possibly Karlovac). After that, Brusovaca could serve as an internship for DTS students.
To give an impression of the message of the youth camp in Donja Brusovaca in Croatia this winter:
{youtube} kaH7HYocSbE {/ youtube}
Rightly so: there are many (young and older) people who want to help out in Croatia for a certain period of time. Experience has shown that it is important to prepare well. It all seems a bit easier from the Netherlands than it is in Croatia. A few years ago I (Meindert) designed a "Work Guidance Protocol" during my study nursing for people who want to come to Croatia for a certain period of time. It seemed useful to me to also publish this protocol on the website of Projekt DUGA. Hereby. On the right side of this webpage you will see a menu with a link ' downloads ' and this type of documents can also be found there.
